Backlog: Week 1

I haven’t been slacking off. I finished off five anime this past week. In all I watched 24 episodes — 15 being shorts (5 minutes or shorter) — which is three more than planned. On the other hand I would have liked to have watched less shorts and more “full-fledged” episodes.

Teekyuu 3 Specials

This was just two two-minute episodes of WTF, as per usual with Teekyuu.

This is an anime about a high school tennis club.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

After four years I finally finished Sasami-san. It started off very nice, laying on the cultural references like mad — see Omo’s conjectures. But very soon, after about two episodes actually, they just ran off with it into randomness. Maybe I’m missing something, but most of the episodes came out of nowhere. Not to mention the incessant fanservice and annoying “ED”.

I can’t say anything bad about the animation though. It’s SHAFT; the animation is nothing short of amazing.

Tsuritama

Tsuritama is about aliens and fishing. It started off slow, introducing the characters and developing them. There’s a pretty big and memorable cast. The last three episodes (of 12) were action-packed though! The week-long waits must have been excruciating. Well, I liked it.

Himouto! Umaru-chan: Umaru-chan Mou Ikkai!

This is the Umaru OVA. There are five short skits, OP and ED in 24 minutes — a Halloween skit, Korean barbecue skit, Sylphine skit, one about pillows and last one about skipping school.

Noragami OVA

You can read a little about the series itself here: Noragami ep1 screenshots and Noragami: more screens and a final note. The OVAs are basically more of Yato’s antics with little to no relation/progress to the storyline. Given that I liked the storyline and pretty much just tolerated the shenanigans, I must say this is definitely a point worse than the series.

Divine possession

As for next week, I’m close to finishing Amaama to Inazuma (2 eps), Aoi Hana (2 eps) and Kyoukai no Kanata (3 eps), so I’ll try to watch those.
